Curtin University (AUSTRALIA)
Curtin University in Western Australia has been engaged in a large scale three year quality enhancement program to redefine and reshape the 600 degrees offered by the University; measure the cost of delivery of every degree; improve the quality and coherence of every award; provide for more engaging learning experiences and enhance the employability of graduates. This has been a mammoth project conducted at whole of university level and involving more than a thousand staff. The program has been recognised nationally by an award from the Australian Learning and Teaching Council.
This paper presents an overview of the process of curriculum mapping including the development of a needs analysis, and the alignment of course learning outcome with graduate attributes, ensuring assessment matches program objectives; and a rigorous examination of the costs of delivery of every unit in every award.
The development of a set of web-based tools has been an important aspect of the curriculum renewal project. The presentation will demonstrate how these simple-to-use tools allow a faculty member to accurately cost program delivery, collect feedback from students, alumni and employers and build unit outlines in a consistent format that ensures all units of study include all necessary information for students.
