Education is increasingly relying on digital technologies and practices, which is reflective of the broader global trends towards increased digitalization and the integration of digital technologies into our teaching and learning. Similarly, language instructors have been working diligently to incorporate cutting-edge technologies to achieve the goal of enhancing student learning. This pilot study applied interviews to explore four students’ learning on an AR (augmented reality) game-based application using their mobile phones. The results indicate that the AR language learning assisted learners in understanding how language is used in real-world situations and they feel that the learning is more relevant and practical. Furthermore, collaborative learning creates a supportive environment where learners can solve problems together with their peers without any anxiety from learning a language. The study implies that the AR game-based mobile learning has its potential for language instruction.
