AN INVESTIGATION ON THE DANGERS AND OPPORTUNITIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE USE OF INNOVATIVE DIGITAL TOOLS IN EDUCATION

Using digital tools in education helps universities (as well as other educational institutions) to carry out educational processes and activities, such as teaching-learning, collecting, creating and then transmitting informational content, in auxiliary/related activities to teaching-learning, such as administrative ones, automating the flow of documents, analyzing information about and from students, in order to: improve their evolution and the activities carried out, predict the future evolution of educational and administrative/related processes, maximize opportunities, as well as minimizing or mitigating the dangers that are present or that may arise in the course of these processes and activities. The focus of the authors is on the use of two target technologies: first, digital signatures (token-based or cloud-based) were introduced and enforced in order to completely automatize the flow of administrative documents, second, we witness an increased usage of machine learning tools and chat bots by both students and educators which are changing the traditional perception of the educational process. To understand these new realities, the results of a study conducted at two Romanian universities are presented, in which students and professors provided answers about digital tools (and mainly about electronic signature and machine learning tools), with a focus on what dangers and opportunities are perceived by the actors involved and may arise when using these technologies.
