Career preparation is challenging for college students as they balance academics, a competitive job market, and skill development. For those entering the global workforce, these challenges are further intensified by limited resources, a lack of representation, and difficulties in bridging cultural and language gaps. Cultural and language-focused extracurricular activities help address these barriers by fostering the confidence, skills, and networks essential for success.

This study examines the impact of such activities on academic and career development through a case study of the Korean Club at a U.S. college. The organization offers cultural, and language programs aimed at enhancing Korean proficiency and promoting professional growth. Using surveys, self-reflection exercises, and focus group interviews, the study assessed students’ perceptions of these activities.

Findings revealed that game-based culture and language classes were the most beneficial, providing an engaging and interactive platform for immersive learning. Study abroad and field trips were also highly valued for their role in enhancing problem-solving skills and building confidence in real-world applications. However, students reported challenges with public speaking and presentation skills during networking events, emphasizing the need for targeted communication training. Structured training and mentorship programs could help students overcome these difficulties, equipping them with the confidence and expertise required to thrive in professional settings.

This case study highlights the significant role of cultural and language-focused extracurricular activities in preparing students for global careers by blending cultural exploration with skill-building opportunities.
