Anadolu University Faculty of Fine Arts- Projector Idea Team- proposed a travel-study organisation in Turkey for 2008 summer for the first time in the aim to provide the Fine Arts Faculty students to gain the ability to work and travel together, expending art education into diverse aspects of life.
This unique project consisted of regular lectures, besides study trips for discovering the chosen region of Turkey geographically, socially, culturally and historically.
The lectuers and workshops were instructed by the expert fine arts teaching staff and guest professors on the topics of Creativity, 2D Design, Graphic Design, Animation, Art History, Painting, Printmaking.
The students have experienced such an education model for the first time in such a study trip group conducted by an interdisciplinary approach. Seing new regions and getting to know new cultures brought our students the opportunity to broaden their horizons and artistic perceptions by interactive social activities as well as theorical lectures.
Marmaris- Datca peninsulas were chosen for this study as it lies between Agean and Mediterranian seas, carrying the burried prehistoric heritage which might impress the students to see how art and design contributed to the human condition on our lands during different civilisations from the past to the present.
The aim was to teach students how to gain a different perspective to observe environment from different frames getting inspired by various sources. After making researhes in the archeologic antic lands around the peninsula, students were thought new techniques and required to take photos, draw scetches to convert these impressions into expressional artworks in different techniques of various disciplines such as drawing, painting, illustration, printmaking, sharing their skills and experiences in the studios of Marmaris Academy situated in Turunc.
The whole lecture program was supported by creativity conferences by professors and documentary films directed by artist academicians releated with the region and parallel with the intention of the event.
We believe this travel study course will contribute to new education experiences and provide our students to become more conscious of new aspects of visual expressions by exploring different point of views.
