THE ROLE OF EDUCATION TO INCREASE THE COMPETITIVENESS OF THE TOURIST INDUSTRY: THE CASE OF THE BALEARIC ISLANDS

In recent years the panorama of the international tourism market has changed considerably. In the face of this reality, it results necessary to study and analyze those factors and strategies can help guarantee the competitiveness of the tourism. Taking into account that there is a constant need for innovative management and the incorporation of new technologies, well-trained, skilled human resources have become indispensable as a basic means of ensuring a competitive edge in the tourist industry. So, in this context, the study’s main objective is to provide an analysis of the Balearic Islands’ educational situation, a leading tourist destination, to take some conclusions on the subject of education and training that could be equally valid for other tourist areas or destinations.
