THE SYSTEMIC METHODOLOGY AND THE SKETCHING PROCESS IN THE CONCEPTUAL DESIGN, CASE STUDY IN DESIGN EDUCTION
J. Briede Westermeyer
Universidad del Bio-Bio (CHILE)
The following investigation describes the application of new concurrent methodologies for product design, to be applied in the teaching context of this subject matter. Regarding the conceptual design process, the use of the sketch has been used many times as a tool of creative expression especially in the conceptual design stage, in an intuitive way and a little decontextualized from the design reality that has to be dealt about. This methodology systematizes and guides the sketched process, by means of a conceptual model and a geometric model, thus making up a global and explicit reference of all the factors to be dealt about, and so, complementing the role of the sketch, in the phase of a product conceptual design. The model and its operating principles are described, as well as the phases of implementation in the context of the teaching of industrial design, illustrated with projects carried out at the conceptual design workshop, at Universidad del Bío-Bío, Chile. The results of this implementation are described and their relation with the sketched process in the conceptual design, as well as their effect on the educational context.
