The curriculum of vocational training on music regulated by the Organic Law of Education (2/2006, 3rd of May; Royal Decree 1577/2006, 22nd of December) sets as one of its main goals to develop the pupil’s capacity to act in public showing sufficient sureness and communicative abilities. (Article 2 and 3). Nevertheless, it is not common practice, (and neither has it traditionally been) to include in the last level of the curriculum’s development teaching method–units and methodologies which allow to make observations on a serious problem: The stage fright.

Due to stage fright, the pupil’s performance and that of professionals of music and arts drops to such a great extent that consequently, both the ability to act in public diminishes notably and the sensation of frustration followed by the lack of motivation arises. Stage fright has a direct influence on pupil’s psychosocial and emotional development. In some cases, stage fright might finally evolve social phobia. Although a high rate of pupils may be affected by this problem, it is at the beginning of adolescence when stage fright really becomes a matter of great importance.

Above all, the aim of this article is to do research on the causes of the appearance concerning the process of stage fright and its consequences regarding to the development of pupils who are undergoing first cycle of intermediate level of Music. For this purpose, we have carried out a survey at the Conservatory of Music of Menorca and asked a determined group of pupils between 12 and 15 from which we have sorted out qualitative and quantitative data. Once worked out the data and as a result, the main reasons given for the appearance of stage fright are: difficulty to concentrate during the phase of study, the increase of responsibility of the adolescent and the fear of social failure.

As a conclusion, we presented some methodical proposals related to this matter in order to include them in a didactic teaching programme which shall be worked out within the new curriculum developed from OLE.
