RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF AN OPEN, ADAPTIVE, DEVELOPING EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE PROVIDING NESSESARY SKILLS IN SEISMIC PROTECTION

Earthquakes in Armenia as in many other countries could result in numerous casualties and properties loss, mainly conditioned by people insufficient earthquakes literacy and their poor preparation for seismic protection.
State Engineering University of Armenia and Armenian National Survey for Seismic Protection are developing an open, adaptive, interactive, and developing educational resource aimed at the provision the seismic literacy of population. Resource will incorporate educational materials on adequate behaviour until, during, and after earthquake.
Resource is realized as an Internet-based information system, which database contains educational materials on seismic protection including explanation materials and knowledge assessment assignments. User of the system are students wanting acquire seismic protection skills, authors and experts of educational materials, which respectively are able to use, install, and review educational materials.
During interaction with a student the information system of the resource is identifying student’s educational demands, from the available knowledge assessment assignments is composing a set of assignments relevant to the student’s region, age, educational demands, and is implemented the knowledge assessment procedure. Then based on the results of the assessment the system is offering to the student relevant education materials on seismic protection.
Resource further development will be secured by creative participation of the authors – the specialist in the seismic protection, who could freely install educational materials and assess materials of other authors. System will forming statistic of this assessment, which later on will be used for the examination of the quality of educational materials.
The examination of the quality of educational materials will be implemented online by the selected group of the experts in the areas of seismic protection and educational technologies, which will jointly take decision on preserving or deletion of teaching materials.
The implementation of this initiative besides the evident educational outcomes will result in the significant social consequences and promote the forming of social net of all those interested in the popularizing of the ideas of seismic protection.
