This study describes an adaptive assessment methodology for b-learning systems that has been applied during the last two years in several courses of the first academic year of the Degree in Actuarial Sciences at the University of Málaga. These courses follow a blended learning system, with a significant part of the learning experience delivered by means of e-learning elements, many of them being assignments or activities. The degree of difficulty of all the activities is evaluated by every student in an on-line anonymous survey. This subjective component is operationalized constructing an indicator that is integrated in the assessment system, along with an objective indicator of difficulty, obtained from the teacher’s assessments. Both indicators act as weights in the final grading system of every course, which becomes an adaptive system. Secondly, this paper presents the main results of an evaluation study of this experience that shows (i) the majority of students agrees with the adaptive assessment system and feels more motivated and involved in the learning experience, and (ii) students reveal a high degree of overall satisfaction with the implemented system.
