e-Portfolios have been gaining, according to the most recent years, a huge acceptance among educators. For thist reason, they are being targeted as one of the most effective educational tools.

Bearing this in mind, we carried out a case-study, with the main purpose of exploring the relationship between the development of an e-portfolio and the students learning styles and multiple intelligences. This study, which we describe in this paper, is also part of a research developed in the scope of a Master Degree.
A learning preference is the individual’s preferred way of thinking, processing information and demonstrating learning. To be aware of the students learning preferences is an essential basis in order to improve the quality of the teaching-learning environment, develop different kinds of activities and use different learning tools.

The Multiple Intelligences Theory was developed by Howard Gardner, and put forward that each individual possesses certain abilities that define her/his problem-solving skills, and consequently the way s/he learn. We all have several multiple intelligences (linguistic, musical, etc), however, some of us are more developed than others, being for this reason some people more skilled in some areas..

In order to understand if and how those concepts (e-portfolios, learning styles and multiple intelligences) can be related, a case-study was carried out in two classes of the course of Electronic Tools Applied to Translation in the School of Accounting and Administration of oPorto, in the past academic year.

Some instruments were applied in those classes to co-relate all the elements. An observation grid was used for each student’s e-portefolio, and the Index of learning Styles from Richard Felderman and Barbara Solomon was also used to assess the learning styles as well as the Multiple Intelligences test from Literacy Works, based on Howard Gardner’s Theory, to assess multiple intelligences.

Finally, students were surveyed and interviewed.

In this paper, the study results will be presented and discussed and ideas for further research put forward.
