THE CHARACTERISTICS OF EFFECTIVE SCHOOL LEADERSHIP IN SUCCESS SCHOOL AT URBAN PRIMARY SCHOOL

This study investigated the characteristics of effective school leadership in success school at urban primary school at North Cyprus. Independent variables were school budget, socio-economic status of families, and teachers’ ages. Dependent variables were the characteristics-style, attitudes, skills of leadership, teaching approach of teachers and learning strategies of students, using curriculum model and education materials, learning environment. The sample group was a school leadership, 6 staffs, 25 teachers, and 20 students and families. Triangulation method was used to collect data. The reliability and validity of study was increased. Interview protocol, observation form, and questionnaire were prepared. During two days all single things that relating to educational settings was recorded in video. The end of the study analyzes all collecting data from interviewee, observation, and questionnaire, and correlates all data to find out answer of research questions and given suggestions. The independent variables as the predictors served to reveal whether a relationship existed between the independent and dependent variables. Findings suggest that budget of school, teachers teaching approach, and characteristics of school leadership are important variables contributing to design school curriculum, learning environment, and creating and over all positive learning environment for staffs and teachers. Strongly correlation between the style of leadership and teacher motivation was find out at the end of the study. Conceptual framework was designed to show all independent and dependent factors to affect effective school leadership performance and how to design an effective school to increase student performance according to students’ skills needs.
