STUDENTS' ATTITUDE TOWARDS INTERNET USE IN A UNIVERSITY IN NIGERIA

The study examined the disposition of undergraduate students to the use of internet in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. A sample of 1000 students was selected by stratified random sampling technique using gender, faculty and level in the university as strata. An instrument titled “Questionnaire on the Attitude towards Internet Use”(QAIU) was used to elicit information from the students. Results revealed that 29% of 300 level students sought information from the internet, followed by 200 level students (23%); 400 level students (21%); 100 level (15%) and 500 level (12%). Results also showed that most of the information frequently sought on the internet was educated related one (81%). Further, results also showed that faculty and level in the universities had significant influence on the attitude of the students to internet use but sex had no significant influence on the attitude of the students.
