Globalization is an unstoppable phenomenon reaching every single point of the world; however, academia seems to be far behind industry in that trend. Universities have the responsibility of preparing future engineers to perform competitively in companies that are every day more global and decentralized. The reality is that very often undergraduate studies are endogamous and too locally centered, without the desirable participation of external entrepreneurs and exchange faculty. Visitor scholars are not uncommon though, but their involvement with degree courses is quite rare. The objective of this project is the international participation of faculty in the supervision of eight final projects for an engineering course in machine design: four groups from a Swedish university and the other four belonging to a Spanish university. Working towards the same target, under similar teaching requirements, but coping with dissimilar academic systems allowed for interesting comparisons and valuable conclusions. The ultimate goal was the extraction of ideas which could be applied in the classroom to improve the organization of the course, increase the motivation of the students, and provide undergraduates with the knowledge that nowadays enterprises demand. This experience showed that getting local companies involved in teaching activities such as letting students to carry out applied projects in their facilities and suggesting real cases of study for machine design projects resulted in a mutual benefit. The interaction of visiting faculty with program students, as well as the mixture of national and international students, favored the global vision of pedagogical activities.
