Nowadays, the computer provides to the education of Statistics with a greater degree of experimentality and produces a reinforcement in the learning of this. It is essential the use of statistical packages, in the resolution of problems with great quantity of calculations. The ideal thing is that the training with computers was done placing two pupils for computer at most, however in the first year of university education this is practically impossible. Foremore, we have to add that the describers of these subjects are excessively extensive, compared with the credit number that they are assigned with.
Because of it, the objective of this communication is to settle this situation, preparing applications, which are of a great help to transmit information with a great saving of time. Doing this, we encourage the introduction in the classroom of materials, resources and new technologies in the education and learning of Mathematics and in concrete of Statistics.
This way, we do not aim the rigorous proof of the statistical technologies skills, but an exhibition of the theoretical basic knowledge of these disciplines and the most applicable statistical methods, and in concrete to the Technical Agricultural Engineering, for whose pupils, the following example was set out:
During the carrying out of the screenings of selection of the California red pepper, developed by the company Iberian Rijk Zwaan S.A., there was access to the information of a determined variety production’s control. The control month to month of the number of obtained fruits, as well as their weight and size has been the data used as origin of the study of variability of averages which is central part of this example and leads to two different studies.
• Study of variability of " Weight per Fruit, in Grams ", depending on the season of the harvest time.
• Study of the variability of " Fruit's production per Plant, in Kilograms ", depending on the season of the harvest time.
All the results have been carried out, using the statistical package "Statgraphics Plus", and the outputs are shown and interpreted to pupils with the Power-Point programme.
