This paper presents a creative educational project that connects poetry, art, and modern technologies in the education of future preschool teachers. The project was carried out with students of preschool education at the Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana, within the elective course The Intersection of Art and Contemporary Technologies. Poetry by Bina Štampe Žmavc served as the starting point for artistic exploration, inspiring students to create multimodal stop-motion animations that combined text, image, movement, and sound.
The study explores how such interdisciplinary artistic processes can support the development of creative, digital, and pedagogical competences among future educators. Data were collected through observations, students’ written reflections, and a SWOT analysis to examine how participants experienced this learning approach, what they identified as its main strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, and how it contributed to their personal and professional growth.
Findings show that students perceived the process of creating poetic animations as an engaging and empowering experience that enhanced their artistic sensitivity, collaborative skills, and confidence in using digital tools. They emphasised that combining creative expression with technology encouraged reflective thinking and fostered openness to applying similar approaches in early childhood settings.
The results suggest that the use of poetry as an artistic and emotional impulse for animation can effectively promote imagination, multimodal literacy, and digital competence in early childhood teacher education. The project demonstrates how the integration of art and technology can open new pedagogical pathways and strengthen both the creative and professional identity of future educators.

This work was supported by the project »University of Ljubljana for the sustainable society - ULTRA«, pilot project ULTRA 5.02 Improving digital skills and competences of (future) educators for quality educational work with younger children, which is co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation and the European Union - NextGenerationEU.
