Citizenship education is an educational process that intentionally seeks to develop in individuals an active civic role within democracy. It is one of the most important exercises within the political education that individuals must have in order to exercise their political life with commitment and dignity. In Colombia, within the framework of the peace process carried out from 2012 to 2016 between the State and the Revolutionary Armed Forces - People's Army (FARC-EP), the national government proposed the implementation of a course that would encourage educational institutions to reflect on the internal armed conflict that the country has experienced since the mid-20th century, the social reconstruction of individuals, families, and communities, and the formation of a new citizenry committed to the political transformation of the country, fostering a culture of peace in the territories.

The Ciudadela Educativa La Presentación School, located in the city of Cali, capital of the Valle del Cauca Department in southwestern Colombia, has implemented a peace chair, seeking to promote students' civic education by overcoming the conditions of violence that have historically existed in the region and the new dynamics of conflict, held back by residual and emerging armed groups and actors. The research sought to establish the impact that the implementation of the peace chair has had on the civic education of students at the Ciudadela Educativa La Presentación School. Epistemologically, it was framed within the interpretive paradigm, with a qualitative methodological approach, descriptive scope and action research design, taking into account as the target population, the students and teachers of the Colegio Ciudadela Educativa La Presentación, taking a convenience sample of eleventh grade students, the last year of high school, prior to entering higher education, and the teachers who accompany the implementation of the peace chair, using documentary review, open surveys and focus group interviews to collect information.

Document review demonstrated that the institution promotes citizenship education through the peace chair and the Democracy and Civic Culture project, encouraging democratic participation among students. The survey and focus group interviews with faculty members revealed that they consider the peace chair a very important academic exercise for building a culture framed in civic values, such as respect, empathy, and healthy coexistence. The survey and focus group interviews with students revealed that the peace chair has developed attitudes that favor the exercise of citizenship, fostering spaces for dialogue and peacebuilding within the institution and the region. In conclusion, the implementation of the peace chair at Colegio Ciudadela Educativa La Presentación has been favored by the curricular initiatives developed, synergistically articulating several curricular devices that have promoted a clear commitment to the formation of citizenship through the peace chair, leading students to develop a civic exercise with a strong social, political and environmental commitment.
