Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) remain a significant public health issue, with increasing incidence in recent years. According to Plesons et al. (2019), advancements in biomedical and digital technologies are offering adolescents more opportunities to take control of their health, particularly through self-care practices. Serious games represent an innovative educational approach that supports teachers in delivering complex topics through interactive and engaging formats. When applied to sex education, serious games can foster deeper understanding and make learning more relevant and accessible for young people. This paper introduces Safe4Play, an Educational Escape Room Serious Game designed to teach students about sex safety which was created in terms of the Erasmus+ Project "Innovative educational intervention for safe sexual and reproductive health" (2020-2-UK01-KA205-079645). Educational Escape Rooms (EERs) have gained popularity as a form of Game-Based Learning (GBL), offering immersive, experience-driven alternatives to traditional teaching methods. The game was implemented in a secondary school in Lesvos, Greece, involving 40 students aged 15–17. After engaging with the game over two weeks, students completed a questionnaire to evaluate its impact. Findings from the evaluation were highly positive, indicating that the game provided both educational value and an engaging learning experience. Students showed improvements in the following areas: (a) Knowledge of sex education, (b) Motivation to learn, and (c) Overall engagement in the subject matter. These results suggest that serious games like Safe4Play can be powerful tools for delivering effective and enjoyable sex education to adolescents.
