The textile, clothing, leather and footwear (TCLF) sector remains a vital part of European manufacturing, yet it faces persistent labour shortages, skill mismatches, and demographic challenges. To address these gaps, the Erasmus+ AEQUALIS4TCLF Blueprint project was launched in 2024, bringing together 18 partners from seven EU countries. The project builds on collaborative research involving industry and education stakeholders, including surveys and focus groups conducted in each partner country. These consultations revealed critical needs in sustainability competences, digital transformation, craft preservation, and soft skills development. Employers consistently reported difficulties in recruiting skilled workers, particularly in areas such as textile chemistry, advanced manufacturing, and sustainable design.

Based on these findings, a portfolio of eight micro-credential curricula was designed and validated at both academic and industrial levels. The micro-credentials, ranging from EQF levels 4 to 7, provide modular, flexible learning pathways that combine traditional craft expertise with digital and sustainability skills. They are supported by a comprehensive learning strategy, including innovative delivery methods (fully online and hybrid formats), interactive digital tools, AI-supported video content, and practice-oriented assessments.

Preliminary results suggest that micro-credentials are an effective instrument for targeted upskilling and reskilling in SMEs, offering accessible and industry-relevant education across Europe. By integrating labour market needs with modern pedagogy, AEQUALIS4TCLF contributes to lifelong learning, supports equality and inclusion, and strengthens the resilience of the European TCLF workforce.
