This study deals with the phenomenon of existential anxiety in the lives of contemporary youth in Slovakia. Several studies confirm an increase in mental health problems among young people. The authors examine this phenomenon in relation to a complex interplay of factors such as existential uncertainties, the deepening value crisis, and the increasing atomization of contemporary society because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The subject of the study is the correlation between feelings of anxiety and the form of introspection in individuals, as well as the resulting quality of interpersonal relationships within their social interactions. The work is based on research among more than 100 secondary school students, which the authors conducted in the form of a survey questionnaire focusing on the quality of social support offered by family, school, friends, and sports environment. The qualitative analysis of the data obtained is based on an interdisciplinary framework of psychology, sociology, and philosophy, taking into account the most significant relevant studies on this issue at present. The survey showed that the field of education lags significantly behind in terms of the quality of social support it provides.
The conclusion of the research paper outlines possible intervention strategies and prospects for the development of healthy interpersonal relationships, which are a fundamental source of psychological resilience.
