The development of technology is currently progressing at a revolutionary pace. It affects all areas, not only science, research, production, but also everyday life. Under their influence, new professions are emerging, and many are experiencing decline or losing their significance. Digital technologies are very quickly transforming into educational technologies and significantly changing the ways of acquiring new knowledge. Preference is given to building a knowledge system, deep learning, learning with understanding, searching for connections, developing critical and analytical thinking, etc. These changes are causing frequent curricular transformations already in the compulsory school education system. It is not easy, rather it is impossible, to prepare primary and secondary school teachers during their studies at a university so that they can teach successfully and effectively until retirement age without innovating and supplementing their knowledge and skills. They themselves must teach and prepare their students for the future of life in a knowledge-based information society so that they can use technological tools, information systems, and artificial intelligence to their advantage to effectively solve everyday problems and improve the quality of life. The presented article discusses how lifelong education of teachers takes place, how universities and educational institutions can help and support their efforts to monitor progress not only in the field of taught subjects but also in educational technologies and teaching methodologies.
