In today's rapidly changing world, where information is constantly updated and technologies are rapidly evolving, factual knowledge alone is no longer sufficient for a successful and fulfilling life. Today, 21st-century competencies, often referred to as "cross-cutting skills," are of particular importance. These include critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, collaboration, communication, digital literacy, civic competencies, and others.

These skills ensure students’ success academically, professionally, and socially. This study aims to explore the role and effectiveness of teachers in fostering the development of these skills in students.

Although the importance of cross-cutting skills is recognized in national curricula and international standards, their effective integration and development in practice often face challenges. The paper discusses the following: the impact of teachers’ characteristics on students’ self-esteem, communication, and sense of responsibility, as well as pedagogical approaches and strategies that can support the development of cross-cutting skills.

The research involved 186 teachers from 23 public schools in Georgia. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used to ensure in-depth and comprehensive data analysis. The study was conducted in three main stages:
- Stage I: Online Questionnaire Survey. An online survey was administered to schoolteachers. The questionnaire included both closed-ended and open-ended questions, enabling the collection of both quantitative data and qualitative insights. The aim was to explore teachers’ perceptions, experiences, and views regarding the teaching of cross-cutting skills and their significance.
- Stage II: Focus Group Interviews. During this phase, focus group interviews were conducted with school administrators and teachers. The objective was to explore the topic in greater depth, uncover diverse perspectives, and identify both challenges and effective practices.
- Stage III: Analysis of Results and Recommendations. The data collected at each stage was thoroughly analyzed. Quantitative data were processed using statistical methods, while qualitative data were examined through thematic analysis. Based on the findings, meaningful conclusions were drawn, and relevant, practical recommendations were formulated for teachers and school administrators.

The research revealed that:
- The development of cross-cutting skills is a central part of the modern educational system.
- Teachers’ professional knowledge and pedagogical approaches directly influence the quality of students’ skill formation.

Based on these findings, the following recommendations were developed for teachers:
- Using active teaching methods (project-based learning, group work).
- Supporting continuous professional development.
- Effectively integrating modern technologies.
- Providing regular constructive feedback.
- Building active partnerships with parents.

The results of this study are important for strengthening teachers’ professional capacity and better preparing students for the challenges of the 21st century.
