In South Africa, the successful implementation of the Electrical Engineering Occupational qualification relies heavily on the capacity and expertise of lecturers. This paper explored the available support systems and resources required to empower lecturers in delivering high-quality education and training in electrical engineering. This study was guided by the Social Efficiency Curriculum theory, which emphasises preparing students for future roles in society by equipping them with relevant skills and competencies. The Social Efficiency Curriculum theory provides a relevant framework for understanding the importance of aligning education with industry needs and societal requirements, making it a suitable theoretical foundation for this study. This is a Qualitative study that involved a systematic literature review of 12 journal articles. A comprehensive search from Google Scholar and ResearchGate was conducted, and screening was performed to identify relevant articles. It was followed by a thorough reading, analysis, and synthesis of the selected articles using a standardised data extraction and quality assessment protocol, with the summary of the findings, identifying patterns or themes, and drawing conclusions based on the synthesised data. The findings constructed from the themes that emerged from the analysed data highlighted the importance of tailored professional development programmes, mentorship, and industry partnerships in building lecturer capacity as effective support systems. Based on the analysis, recommendations are proposed to inform the development of targeted support initiatives, including collaborative learning communities, industry-exposure programmes, and pedagogical training. In conclusion, the success of the Electrical Engineering Occupational qualification programmes in South Africa hinges on providing lecturers with targeted support and resources to enhance their capacity.
