INVESTIGATING THE ADAPTABILITY QUOTIENT (AQ) IN MINE SURVEYING STUDIES AT A HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION IN SOUTH AFRICA

A critical skill that will make a difference and help keep abreast with the constant changing modern world is a person’s adaptability. Adaptability requires for individuals to question their beliefs and revise strategies that might have made them succeed in the past. Adaptability is now used as an indicator of a company’s performance, competitiveness and value add. This study examined the adaptability quotient (AQ) in a third-year class of Mine Surveying students at the University of Johannesburg. The objectives of the study were to 1) assesses the adaptability quotient of third year students in Mine Surveying studies; 2) evaluate the third-year students’ overall performance against their adaptability quotient score. Students were made to take an AQ evaluation questionnaire and the scores from the questionnaire were compared to the student’s overall performance in the third year Mine Surveying studies. A correlation and regression of the AQ scores and student marks were calculated for the third year Mine Surveying students.
