An effective implementation of societal integration and inclusion measures requires a wide range of lifelong learning opportunities focused on the needs of newcomers. These opportunities should be available both to representatives of the host society and to immigrants themselves. From the perspective of the host society, the primary goal is to educate newcomers by providing them with language skills in the official language, cultural orientation, entrepreneurial knowledge and the competence to adapt to social processes. However, it is equally important to educate professionals from various fields who interact with newcomers in the course of providing public and private sector services.
Professionals across various sectors, including those in public administration, municipal institutions, non-governmental organisations, educational and medical institutions, etc., who interact with immigrants require lifelong learning and professional development programmes. These programmes should aim to deepen their understanding of social diversity and improve their intercultural communication skills. Such training is a prerequisite for building an inclusive society, one that supports immigrant adaptation in a professional and responsive manner, tailored to relevant needs and circumstances.
Training for professionals from various sectors who systematically communicate with newcomers as part of their job responsibilities includes knowledge about social diversity and intercultural communication, as well as the observance of the fundamental rights of third-country nationals and their inclusion in society. Such training contributes to improving both the access to services and the quality of services for third-country nationals who have been granted the right to reside in another country, as well as for individuals in need of international protection - refugees, persons with subsidiary protection status, and asylum seekers.
The study investigates the content and principles of training programmes for professionals who work with newcomers in their daily duties, evaluating the balance between theoretical and practical knowledge, the relevance and thematic alignment of the programmes, based on a survey of participants conducted at the end of the training.
