The rapid development of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) led to the development of "digital/virtual teaching assistants” aiming to support teachers and students in the educational process. Nowadays, applications as chatbot-type agents (ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Krikri), models trained with specific data to serve educational purposes (EdGPT) and integrated online educational environments that make use of Conversational AI (MagicSchoolAI, Eduaide.ai), are gaining an increasing popularity trend.
This study aims to discuss the potential of Artificial Intelligence, specifically of ChatGPT (a multipurpose tool), MagicSchoolAI (a tool designed for teachers/students/schools) and Wiserwork (a tool designed for business team that configured and customized to be used by teachers in Greece) as supportive tools for primary school teachers in designing educational scenarios.
Twelve pre-service teachers participated in a short course on “AI in education” and answered the questions of semi-conducted interviews to assess the usability, the reliability, and the creativity of the three AI tools during designing educational scenarios for their primary school students.
Results discuss resources, facilities, opportunities, challenges concerning providing feedback, explanations and guidance, managing activities and assessing students’ progress during educational activities to engage students, to encourage investigation and hands-on learning, to facilitate the articulation of understanding, to deepen comprehension through practice and to design formative and summative assessment activities for students.
