As labor markets worldwide are reshaped by automation and recalibrated economic engines, labor market literacy (LML) the capacity to understand, interpret, and act on labor market data, must evolve from concept to application.
Building on our earlier theoretical framework, this study reports on the field implementation of LML tools: Individual Career Mapping (ICM), virtual reality (VR) field trips, and an Industry 4.0 career readiness assessment, deployed within schools, libraries, reentry programs, and workforce partnerships in underserved and transitional environments in Nevada.
Using a mixed-methods evaluation of pilot cohorts, we assess outcomes such as credential attainment, skill alignment, participant engagement, and system integration. At a rural high school site, all 21 participants completed ICM pathways, including VR exposure and assessment-driven mapping, with a 100% first attempt pass rate on the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). These results notably exceed national (86%) and state benchmarks, where 14% of testers nationally fail to earn any certificate and only 5% of Nevada testers earn Platinum.
Quantitative analysis shows a strong correlation (r = 0.82) between problem-solving scores and overall career readiness. 71% of participants earned Silver-level NCRC or higher.
Survey results indicate that 80% of users agreed or strongly agreed that VR deepened their understanding of career options. 100% of program navigators reported high satisfaction and an intent to continue use.
Implementation barriers were logistical (e.g., time, setup, coordination) not motivational.
This paper discusses how embedding LML tools into trusted public infrastructure such as libraries, integrated with court-linked or community reentry systems, enables equitable access, enhances measurable outcomes, and generates system-level impact.
We conclude with reflections on scalability, pathways for policy integration, and recommendations for adapting LML at scale to support broadly accessible workforce opportunity in a world of work undergoing rapid change.
