This paper presents the work and initial outcomes of the National Centre for the Digital Transformation of Education (NCDTV), established in 2024 as a professional body within a national project supporting the systemic digital transformation of education in the Slovak Republic. The Centre operates within a partnership between the National Institute for Education and Youth, Comenius University in Bratislava, and Pavol Jozef Šafárik University. Several other universities and experts from educational practice are also involved in the project.
The Centre’s mission is to develop a sustainable support system for digital transformation based on research, data analysis, and the integration of expert knowledge with the practical needs of schools. The core of this paper is an analysis of the first year of implementation of the key project activity, Support for the Digital Transformation of Education, which consists of several specialized sub-activities. These focus primarily on the training and professional development of school digital coordinators, the adaptation of the European Digital Competence Framework for Educators (DigCompEdu) to the national context, the development, updating, and piloting of methodological materials for teachers, support for communities of practice and networking among field actors, school-based research activities, and the formulation of recommendations and standards. Additionally, the Centre carries out awareness-raising and experimental initiatives aimed at the practical application of digital innovations in education.
The paper documents and evaluates both the quantitative and qualitative outcomes achieved during the Centre’s first year of activity. Special attention is given to the factors that contribute to the successful implementation of specific activities and the broader systemic approach.
