Higher education is currently facing many challenges in the fast changing world, especially with regard to the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence. On one hand it is important to keep up with the new dimension of education, on the other hand it is important to prepare students for the real life with focus on skills still currently used in practice. The readiness of students to be prepared for real life challenges is more and more prevalent especially in fields where close collaboration with people is required. One of those fields is spatial planning where constant cooperation and communication with different stakeholders is required. This challenge can be met much more easily by alternative innovative practices in the education of students not only by theoretical preparation. There are many alternatives to pursue this aim.

In the article, we briefly introduce alternative though attractive teaching methods used for education of mainly present approaches that are currently used in the teaching practice of future spatial planners during their master studies as it requires more complex knowledge of spatial planning. Above all, the focus of the article is on role-playing game in education of future spatial planners. During the teaching process, furthermore, we are challenged to incorporate international students into the whole process, as they are an inseparable part of education process mainly at the master degree. Originally, the role-playing game was developed for teaching purposes of future planners and stakeholders and has been specifically adopted for understanding urban regeneration processes within the spatial planning curricula. Described method contributes to greater creativity and efficiency during the teaching process, although it has its limits. Students appreciate this type of education for its creative approach and versatility with regard to foreign students as this game can be easily adapted to specifics of any country. Positive feedback is joint with the real-life perception of the planning process, even though in more simplified manner compared to the practice.
