This study aimed to reveal the trends of research on e-portfolio use in the field of work integrated learning (WIL) through scientific mapping and bibliometric analysis. For this purpose, the numerical distribution of research on e-portfolios, citation analysis, research themes and the change of trends were examined. The analysis encompasses a wide range of scholarly articles published between 2015 and 2025, which provide valuable insights on the use of e-portfolios for pre-service WIL.
A comprehensive review of articles based on the use of e-portfolio during WIL and teacher training was completed from scholarly publications sourced from Scopus database. To ensure its credibility to this study, a bibliometric approach was conducted using keywords. Words such as "e-portfolios" OR "pre-service teacher training" OR "work integrated learning" OR "teacher practicum" OR "teaching practice" AND "Technology" were used for article extraction. VOS viewer is employed to analyse emerging trends, countries that have been most active, and most influential publications in researching the use of e-portfolios in teacher training, over the past decade. Central concepts and potential areas for research are identified through the occurrence of the most frequent and fewer occurring words. The main research question is: How can the bibliometric analysis map the trends on the use of e-portfolios in pre-service WIL? The results of this study will contribute to better understanding of the importance of using e-portfolios in teacher training during WIL through the understanding of diverse themes, effective practices and influential contributors to teacher education and training during WIL. It will also identify the gaps that exist specifically with policy makers, and teacher training institutions that follow the hard copy WIL file system.
Keywords: e-portfolios, work integrated learning, education trends, bibliometric.
