EXPERIENCES AND CHALLENGES OF THE SLOVENIAN MODEL FOR ONLINE PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

Online professional development presents significant challenges in ensuring interaction between presenters and participants, maintaining active learner engagement, and accurately tracking attendance. This paper presents the experience of the National Education Institute Slovenia in organizing and implementing a series of online professional development programs for educational professionals and leaders in Slovenia, known as Digital Education Week (TDI).

TDI is a five-day online training model, held each evening for 90 minutes via a digital platform. It enables participants to attend live lectures, access learning materials, interact with presenters, fellow participants, and organizers, and ensures transparent attendance tracking. The model supports flexible participation—either live or through on-demand recordings. TDI is structured, interactive, and inclusive, allowing for effective large-scale professional development.

Between November 2022 and June 2025, six TDI events were held, engaging over 12,000 participants. The content of these events spanned all levels and areas of education, creating space for dialogue on opportunities and challenges in education among various stakeholders—from practitioners to policymakers. Through the content and materials of TDI, the initiative aimed to explore innovative and effective teaching and learning approaches and to present practical solutions in areas such as digital competence development, sustainable development, and cybersecurity. The collaboration between presenters, practitioners, and participants enabled meaningful discussions on educational challenges and innovations.

This paper also highlights how the use of the Confiva digital platform enabled the realization of the TDI model, preserving key elements of in-person training and adapting them into an interactive and measurable online learning experience.
