The paper describes how we support novice university teachers’ professional development in education by using the concept of professional seniority and emphasis on self-reflection. The aim was to find out the way, how to enhance novice university teachers from the faculties of engineering and economics in the field of their professional and teaching activities. With this aim, several elements are used during their training. Specifically, the paper describes the elements that reflect the link between education in professional seniority and the principles of effective self- reflection of the novice university teacher. This is part of the preparation of novice university teachers with technical and economic orientation at the University of Žilina and their development especially in the field of engineering pedagogy. We present different dimensions through which in adaptation education course novice teachers can gain a positive approach to lifelong self-reflection, self-evaluation of their professional activity in connection to their personal life. There is an expectation that they will increase their openness to systematic self-reflection or to colleagues with longer work experience.
