Nowadays, for maintaining the quality of the environment in cities and open public spaces, it is necessary to expand green spaces, so the demand for green jobs is expected to increase. The green roofs - vegetation on roofs may be the one of solutions to solve this problem. The structure of a green roof is closely related to the structure of the building, so it is important that future construction engineers have the necessary knowledge how to construct such type of object and the appropriate ecological skills. The investigations were done developing an innovative training course – programme that involves up-to-date methodology, new multidisciplinary material in the field of green roofs constructions. The local focus groups were surveyed, organized and a training need list for the professional profile was elaborated. A group of 70 experts whose task was to define the training needs in the field of green roofs was selected from different countries including Poland, Italy, Slovenia, Lithuania, Cyprus, Romania and Portugal participating at the Erasmus+ international project “Cooperation partnerships in higher education”. Each partner invited at least 10 experts in green roofs development, construction and education. A methodology and instructions for partners on how to conduct interviews with experts was prepared. The results of training needs research and main subjects for education are presented. The main processes in which construction engineers may be involved include such stages: analysis of the local constraints, selection of suitable building structures, definition of the green roof system to be used, cost estimation, structural assessment, choice of construction materials, analysis of building physics including development of roof as a solar station, definition of the vegetation conditions, design of drainage and irrigation system. The construction and maintenance phases as surveying and measurements, management process, selection of materials and roof types, verification of the work quality, influence of weather conditions, etc., are defined as well.
