The ability to think critically is essential for economics students, as filtering, analyzing information, and considering different perspectives are essential for making well-founded complex economic decisions. The aim of our study was to examine the measurability of critical thinking in a higher education context. To this end, we conducted a questionnaire survey among economics students, which assessed the respondents' thinking skills along three main dimensions: information evaluation, reasoning and decision-making competence, and the practical application of critical thinking. With the help of our own developed measuring tool, we obtained a detailed picture of the students' strengths and areas for development. The three dimensions can be analyzed separately, so we can show a more accurate, personalized picture of the thinking of the individual surveyed, and outline targeted development opportunities for them. Based on the results, we formulate proposals for the targeted development of critical thinking in university education. The practical benefit of the research is an easy-to-use assessment tool that can also be used in education, supporting educators in the conscious development of students' thinking.
