Students in the BIS Programme take a 15 weeks 30 credits placement module in a work based setting during the second semester of their third year. They are required to complete assessments during the placement. Post placement survey data was gathered over a three year period. Students were invited to answer survey questions around their assessment and feedback experience in relation to their placement module. This paper discusses the students' experience while preparing for placement as well as their on placement experience of feedback and assessment. In particular it covers the students' view of the usefulness and value of the on placement assessment tasks. It concludes that students find the CV and interview preparation initiatives useful in preparing them for placement applications. They act on the feedback received to adjust their CV and interview responses. During their placements they find the feedback from the host organisation supervisor and other staff useful and timely. Students act on the feedback to improve their performance. Students grow in confidence as a result of the feedback. Analysis of the qualitative data adds to the richness of this picture ensuring that future design of placement assessment and feedback will enhance learning for students.
