TRANSFORMING EDUCATION THROUGH PEACE CIRCLE®: A VALUES-DRIVEN LEARNING ECOSYSTEM CONNECTING PEOPLE, COMMUNITY, AND NATURE

Peace Circle® is a holistic, value-driven learning model designed to reimagine education as a shared, ethically grounded and community-rooted experience. Developed in response to the war in Ukraine and building on over 25 years of global peace and environmental education through the Environment Online (ENO) school network, the model integrates nature connection, storytelling, and symbolic participation to foster resilience, belonging, and ecological empathy.

The pedagogical foundation combines experiential learning (Kolb, Dewey), dialogical pedagogy (Freire), value-creating approaches (Sharma), and planetary well-being (Salonen & Bardy). At its core is the ABC for Peace framework:
- Heart (hope, compassion, justice)
- Head (knowledge, science, wisdom)
- Hands (protection of life, balance, diversity)

These values are lived through physical and digital Peace Circles — symbolic learning spaces consisting of the Peace Tree, ABC Paths, the Meadow of Life, and the Circle of Guardians — promoting intergenerational dialogue and connection with nature.

The model is currently being piloted in diverse communities globally, combining physical locations with a digital twin platform that enables wider participation. This hybrid form allows learners to explore Peace Circle values through immersive storytelling, visual tasks, and collaborative reflection, both online and in place-based settings.

This session introduces the pedagogical design and theoretical basis of Peace Circle®, with participants engaging in a values-mapping activity using the ABC for Peace framework via an online reflection tool at freeonlinesurveys.com/s/g9aKy2hr, designed to explore personal, communal and planetary values across heart, head and hands.

Peace Circle® offers a scalable and deeply human response to contemporary educational challenges. It invites learners not only to receive knowledge but to become ethical co-creators of a peaceful and sustainable future — in harmony with each other and with the Earth.
