The paper focuses on teaching and evaluation strategies for an IT Applied in Social Sciences course in English, taught in the first year of the BA level, for groups of students including many international students, during the academic years 2022-2023 and 2024-2025, focusing on methods to improve students’ results. For some time, we have adopted a goal-oriented approach in delivering the course, focusing on the importance of digital skills and digital impact within our society. The present paper studies the results of making available most of the theoretical quiz questions for the students.

The course covers basic IT and Internet services characteristics and principles, as well as the most important moments in IT evolution and practical tasks regarding spreadsheet analysis, a Wordpress website and a team work research assignment on e-activities. We aim to improve the results of the theoretical quiz by making available for the students, on our e-learning platform, most of the questions, prior to the exam.

We briefly overview the course characteristics, which have been described in previous papers. For the student feed-back analysis, we used the data provided by the official UBB teacher evaluation tool, which is included in our university’s academic information system AcademicInfo. The course educational materials were prepared in English and posted on the faculty’s moodle e-learning platform. The course was also broadcasted online, using MS Teams (which was also used during the online teaching period).

We constantly revealed the usefulness of digital skills, practical benefits of the course and the importance of IT impact in various society fields; in this respect, the team assignment on e-activites had a very important role. We emphasized how students could use the practical assignments for their employability portfolio, linking these advantages to an employability presentation sustained by a former alumnus.

We also analyze the students’ final grades and compare them in the academic years 2022-2023 and 2024-2025 and discuss the benefits of making available for the students most of the quiz questions prior to the exam.

Using UBB’s teacher evaluation tool, English line students graded the course with an average of 4.43 in 2022-2023, and 3.98 in 2024-2025, very good scores, on a scale 1-5, where 1 is very poor and 5 is very good. Students expressed a general positive feed-back towards the course content, the acquired knowledge and the usefulness of the practical assignments they have worked on, especially the team research assignment on e-activities, these aspects leading to an overall good rating of the course.
Regarding the impact of making available most of the theoretical quiz questions for the students prior to the exam, we conclude that it had a positive effect on their grades and also stimulated students’ preparation for the exam.
