Today, our society is already living in a new era, which is called Industry 5.0. This study explores the emerging trends and challenges in business and management education in the context of Industry 5.0.
This study adopts a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both theoretical and empirical data. First, the author conducted a theoretical analysis of the academic literature to define educational trends and challenges in Industry 5.0.
Second, the author used individual in-depth interviews (IDI) with experts to gain further understanding of the challenges and opportunities of business and management education in the era of Industry 5.0.
Third, the author outlined the position of the instructors based on the results of the conference at Lomonosov Moscow State University, where he moderated the section on “Management Education in the Age of AI: How to Teach Future Managers”.
The results show that the first academic publications on Industry 5.0 appeared in 2015-2016, and on the topic of education after 2018-2019. Traditional education requires a significant shift to meet the demands of the rapidly evolving human-machine era, emphasizing the integration of human-centred technologies, artificial intelligence, and sustainability-driven practices. Business and management education 5.0 could incorporate AI-driven decision-making models, personalized learning experiences, more data analytics in research, experiential learning through simulations and virtual reality (VR), etc. It needs to focus on ethical leadership and sustainability, inclusion and diversity, digital management, etc.
The author concludes that more interdisciplinary collaboration, university-industry partnerships, student-centred and human-centred approaches, and omni-digital education are essential for business and management curricula. Talent centricity and talent-centric cultures have become the need of Industry 5.0.
