Education in the academic study programme Psychology develops at both bachelor's and master's level the knowledge, skills and competences of students not only in basic and applied psychological disciplines, but also prepares them for future professional employment in various areas of applied practice. Therefore, this paper focuses on the main areas of possible use of the results of psychology education in applied practice in order to show how the knowledge that students acquire during their studies can be effectively applied in specific professional fields.

The projects that students work on for these purposes during their studies at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University can be very diverse and can thus bring concrete benefits for a wide range of application practices, e.g. in the field of raising awareness of mental illness or in the field of prevention and promotion of mental health for governmental and non-profit organizations. The concrete outputs of psychology students that will be presented at the conference are produced under the guidance of experienced educators in the form of posters, infographics, videos, leaflets or interactive tools, which are very valuable to practitioner organisations as they can have an immediate impact with minimal cost. Such projects not only help students gain valuable experience in applying theoretical knowledge to practice, but also provide valuable tools for various organisations, educational institutions or healthcare facilities. Therefore, the paper also takes into account the identified challenges and barriers associated with the transfer of academic results into practice, such as the need to adapt theoretical models and methods to the individual needs of clients or specific conditions of the application practice, the necessary support of students by experienced mentors and experts, the need to adapt the results of student projects to a different socio-cultural environment, or quite often identified reluctance of practice to accept new knowledge and approaches in the field of psychology, etc.

At the same time, the document addresses key issues of cooperation between academia and practice, including the importance of internships that allow students to apply theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills. Linking academic teaching with practice is not only an enrichment of the curricula, but also a prerequisite for developing the competences that graduates need to be able to respond effectively to the needs of applied practice in different areas of psychology, from psychological support, diagnosis and counselling to research, especially in clinical, school, educational and counselling psychology, as well as in occupational psychology.

Finally, the paper also highlights the differences in the various systems of psychology education in the international context as well as the role and importance of continuing education and supervision in the professional development of graduates of psychology degree programmes as essential components of the professional development of graduates after their studies. Indeed, the growth and adaptation of professional competencies of psychologists in applied practice is a continuous process that requires not only continuing professional training, but especially an active approach to continuing education of graduates and their involvement in professional communities.
