C.T. Orji, J. Perumal
This research explores the influence of digital platforms on youth entrepreneurship in Nigeria, focusing on how these platforms facilitate business initiation and growth among young entrepreneurs. Specifically, the study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of digital platforms like social media, e-commerce websites, and mobile applications in fostering entrepreneurial success among youths, particularly in skill development, networking, and market access. Employing a mixed-method approach, the research involved 120 young entrepreneurs aged 18-35 from diverse industries, including technology and services. Participants were chosen through stratified random sampling and contributed insights via survey and focus group discussions. Data analysis was conducted using mean and standard deviation and thematically, revealing how digital platforms support business success.
The findings indicate that digital platforms significantly enhance access to resources, mentorship, and markets, thereby facilitating business sustainability and growth. However, challenges such as inadequate digital literacy and poor infrastructural support were also identified as significant barriers. Based on these results, the study concludes that while digital platforms are indispensable tools for empowering young entrepreneurs, addressing digital literacy and infrastructure issues is crucial for maximizing their benefits. Future research should further investigate the long-term impacts of digital platform use on entrepreneurial success and devise strategies to mitigate identified challenges.
