This analysis attempts to investigate the ways in which the use of open-source AI tools can modify and influence the educational activities of students in technical universities. Using a qualitative approach resulting from surveys, relevant information on students' and teachers' perceptions on the introduction and use of AI tools in courses is obtained. In addition, the study reveals that the interaction of both students and teachers with such tools contributes positively to improving the quality of the educational process. This research is particularly relevant for technical university education, as the current perception of introducing and increasing the use of artificial intelligence in teaching would reduce the benefits of traditional, commonly applied teaching strategies. Preliminary investigation indicates that while open-source AI tools hold considerable promise for enhancing educational experiences, their implementation must be carefully managed to preserve the essential benefits of established teaching practices.
