In recent years, the number of Ukrainian students at Slovak universities has been growing, which creates new challenges and opportunities in the area of their academic and social integration. While in October 2021, 5493 students studied at Slovak universities, in October 2024 there were 13061. The aim of the article is to analyze the importance of adaptation mechanisms and identify key factors influencing the integration of Ukrainian students into the academic environment in Slovakia.

The research combines qualitative analysis of students' experiences with quantitative processing of secondary data, providing a comprehensive view of the current situation. Special attention is paid to the ERASMUS+ program: 2023-1-SK01-KA220-HED-000166871. "Innovation of the structure and content of education in the field of economics and management with an emphasis on digitization, sustainability and the inclusion of migrants", whose activities support the education and inclusion of Ukrainian students.

The research reveals the challenges these students face, including language barriers, social isolation, financial constraints, and the psychological impact of war-related displacement.

The results indicate that students appreciate initiatives aimed at creating innovative bilingual electronic learning materials that help them to cope with academic challenges more effectively. The findings highlight the role of universities in facilitating access to education, strengthening socio-cultural integration, and supporting academic success during such adaptation. The article also points to recommendations for universities e.g. how to optimize adaptation mechanisms or strengthen the inclusion of Ukrainian students in the higher education environment.
