Financial literacy is the basis for effective money management. Currently, considerable attention is paid to this issue in EU countries, and there is much debate about the level of financial literacy. From our point of view, the level of financial literacy is the result of financial education. In the article, we focused on the level of financial literacy of full-time and part-time students of universities in the Slovak Republic. The survey was conducted using a questionnaire that contained questions aimed at finding basic information about the respondents, their level of financial literacy and the connection of financial literacy with the purchasing behaviour of the respondents. The hypotheses set were aimed at determining the interdependence between gender, experience, level of education, level of disposable income and financial literacy. To verify the above hypotheses, we used the chi-square test of independence, which is suitable for examining the relationship of dependence between suitable categorical variables. We quantified the strength of the dependence using Cramér's V. We reflected the survey results in measures aimed at increasing the financial literacy of the population, primarily through the educational process, but also in areas of purchasing behaviour related to financial literacy.
