ABSTRACT VIEW
CULTURE: BALANCING CHAOS AND ORDER THROUGH THE LENS OF MYTH
M. Garcia-Notario
State University of New York, Plattsburgh College (UNITED STATES)
This presentation explores the interplay between Chaos and Order in individual, social, and cultural development, through classic mythological narratives. For millennia these stories guided ancient societies through these recurring, contrarian forces in human history.

The presentation delves into key myths and folklore to consider how Chaos and Order alternate, interpenetrate, modify, and evoke each other, and how different interpretations can illuminate moral values and behavior and true society.

The timeless stories of Osiris and Horus, Gilgamesh, the Odyssey…, and even modern tales like Pinocchio or The Lion King, offer profound insights into the inevitable tensions between generations. They reveal how the unrest and upheaval often sparked by youthful dissatisfaction can be channeled toward constructive renewal when grounded in a properly ordered respect for tradition. By these narratives, we discover a path from Chaos to Order restoration, shaped by the interplay of innovation and reverence for the past.
