There is widespread integration of technology in higher education where the use of online applications has emerged as a promising avenue for enhancing student engagement and improving learning outcomes. However, there exists a critical knowledge gap regarding the specific factors that contribute to the effective implementation of online applications and their subsequent impact on student learning experiences. This study aims to address this gap by examining the use of online applications in a private higher education institution and investigating lecturers’ influences on student engagement, knowledge retention, and overall learning outcomes. By conducting a comprehensive review of existing literature, the study establishes a theoretical foundation for understanding the potential benefits and challenges associated with integrating online applications in the classroom. The accessible sample consists of seven lecturers who are part of a Lead Technology Innovators as a team from 7 campuses across South Africa. Using a data collection method such as interviews, this study seeks to gather qualitative data on their experiences with the use of online applications in technology-driven higher education. The research identified the effective strategies and best practices for integrating online applications introduced in the LTIs training sessions, while also uncovering potential barriers and limitations in their implementation. The findings of this study will provide valuable insights into the impact of online application usage on student engagement and learning outcomes in higher education. Ultimately, this research contributes to the development of evidence-based pedagogical approaches that leverage online applications to their fullest potential. By bridging the existing knowledge gap, this study aims to guide educators in successfully integrating online applications, thus enhancing student engagement, and fostering improved learning outcomes in higher education.
