In 2022, the company OpenAI released to the market the first version of ChatGPT, a chatbot that generates human-like text, answering diverse questions. Since then, ChatGPT has transformed society profoundly and many people look forward to the changes it can bring in the medium and long term. Education is not an exception. ChatGPT is able to explain almost any complex concept of education curricula, which turns ChatGPT into a valuable resource for students across all educational levels, from mandatory education (Primary and Secondary) to voluntary education (Undergraduate, Master's, Doctorate, and Vocational Training). Students can benefit from the availability of ChatGPT, allowing them to get their questions answered instantly and at any time without having to wait for the teacher's availability. In addition, ChatGPT allows each student to study according to his or her needs, going deeper into those points where they face more difficulties, or in which they are more interested, while skipping over the already understood concepts. ChatGPT can also be a helpful tool for teachers, by assisting them to generate materials, conduct quick assessments and adapt curricula to individual student needs, promoting inclusiveness and personalized education.

This study presents the results of a research project focused on the application of ChatGPT in high school education, with two main objectives: first, to evaluate its performance across various subjects, comparing accuracy and consistency between different subjects and assessing its reliability as a study aid;
and second, to analyze real-world usage and perception. These perceptions are obtained both from students and teachers through surveys conducted in the participating schools. In particular, in this second point we would like to ascertain if people of education institutions know the risks involved in the use of ChatGPT (e. g. it may not always answer faithfully) or, on the contrary, they use it to save themselves work.
