This study examines how personality traits and self-efficacy affect the conflict resolution strategies employed by adolescents, focusing on the role of traits like agreeableness, social self-efficacy, and empathic self-efficacy. Specifically, it explores how these traits contribute to positive conflict resolution strategies such as negotiation and compromise, while reducing the negative strategies like aggression. The research involved 180 high school students, aged 18 to 20, from three high schools in Cluj. The study employed a range of measurement tools to assess key variables. Personality traits, particularly agreeableness, were evaluated to understand how these traits relate to interpersonal conflict handling. Social and empathic self-efficacy were measured to gauge students' confidence in managing social interactions and understanding others' emotions, which are essential for conflict resolution. Conflict resolution strategies, including positive approaches like negotiation and compromise versus aggressive tactics, were measured through realistic conflict scenarios and behavioral assessments. The results revealed that agreeableness, social self-efficacy, and empathic self-efficacy are significant predictors of the adoption of positive conflict resolution strategies. Students with higher agreeableness and empathic self-efficacy were more likely to use constructive strategies and less likely to resort to aggression. These findings suggest that fostering these traits in adolescents can improve their ability to manage conflicts more effectively, contributing to better interpersonal relationships and a reduction in aggressive behaviors. Educational programs that focus on enhancing social and empathic self-efficacy could, therefore, play a crucial role in helping adolescents develop stronger conflict resolution skills.
