In this work, we explore the challenges faced by higher education faculty in implementing blended learning in a research-intensive university, with a focus on the production of educational videos. Individually, researchers have reported technical and logistical challenges faced when implementing blended learning courses, especially in the production of videos. To examine these challenges,we administered a survey among faculty from various departments in the university to capture their perceptions on technical skills, access to resources, and the use of AI tools , among others. Based on the analysis of the survey results, we found four areas of interest.
These are:
(1) authenticity of produced educational videos,
(2) optimal blend of online (video) and face-to-face learning,
(3) limited use of AI tools and
(4) constraints of time.
We also found that there were concerns when it came to the level of technological knowledge and technical support. In general, faculty believed in the effectiveness of educational videos to facilitate learning and were keen to develop their knowledge and competencies for video production. These insights aim to inform stakeholders on improving blended learning practices to foster a more engaging and effective student learning experience.
