Entrepreneurship education plays a pivotal role in equipping young individuals with the skills and mindset necessary to succeed in a rapidly evolving global economy. As Generation Z emerges as the next wave of entrepreneurs, understanding their entrepreneurial readiness, motivation, and ability to engage in critical thinking is essential. Critical thinking is a key competency in an era shaped by social media misinformation and AI-generated content, influencing decision-making and problem-solving in entrepreneurial contexts. This study explores the entrepreneurial attitudes of Slovakian high school and university students, focusing on their exposure to entrepreneurship education, self-assessed entrepreneurial abilities, critical thinking skills, and perceived barriers to starting a business.
To gather insights, a comprehensive questionnaire survey was conducted in early 2025, examining students’ academic backgrounds, entrepreneurial inclinations, and perspectives on essential competencies such as communication, risk-taking, problem-solving, and adaptability. The survey also assessed students' perceptions of gender differences in entrepreneurship, attitudes toward work-life balance, and the role of critical thinking in navigating business challenges and evaluating opportunities.
Key findings reveal significant disparities in access to entrepreneurship education, with many students expressing a preference for hands-on learning experiences such as project-based activities and mentorship programs. Barriers identified include financial constraints, market competition and time management. Additionally, the study highlights the importance of critical thinking skills in business decision-making, problem identification, and innovative solutions.
This study underscores the necessity of integrating critical thinking development into entrepreneurship education to better prepare students for the complexities of the entrepreneurial world. By addressing gaps in skill-building, fostering practical experience, and strengthening support networks, educators and policymakers can empower Generation Z to overcome challenges, embrace innovation, and contribute to economic growth. The findings provide actionable recommendations for designing effective educational frameworks that foster entrepreneurial and critical thinking competencies, ensuring students are well-equipped for the dynamic demands of the global marketplace.
