MacEwan University (CANADA)
The first purpose of this study is to get student feedback on the newly added section on the appropriate and inappropriate use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in the revised Academic Integrity E-Learning tutorial. The purpose of the tutorial is to educate university students about academic integrity, thus preventing academic misconduct. The original Academic Integrity E-Learning Tutorial was created in 2018, and the pilot rollout of this revised Academic Integrity E-Learning Tutorial was in January 2024. What motivated the necessity to revise the tutorial is generative artificial intelligence (GenAI).

The specific research questions related to the revised Academic Integrity E-Learning tutorial are: (1) feedback on the inclusion of the new section in the tutorial about the appropriate and inappropriate use of artificial intelligence, (2) what specific artificial intelligence information students found most useful, and (3) what artificial intelligence information students wanted more information about.

The second purpose of this study is to find out if faculty in a School of Business at a Canadian university are discussing with their students the appropriate and inappropriate use generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) since the revised tutorial was implemented.

This study starts by defining academic integrity and its elements. Next, artificial intelligence and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) are defined and the differences between each are noted. Then the methodology is presented. A part of this study is the comparison between the original 2018 and the new 2024 Academic Integrity E-Learning Tutorial. Following this, the results are explained and discussed using both quantitative and qualitative data. The first results focus on the evaluating the new section on generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in the Academic Integrity E-Learning Tutorial. The second results focus on if faculty discussing with their students the appropriate and inappropriate use generative artificial intelligence (GenAI).
